Robot Chicken Panel at the LBCC

by on Oct.05, 2009, under General News, Live Events

The Long Beach Comic Con lasted from Friday afternoon to Sunday Evening, but due to me having to work on Friday (and traffic for those travelling to my apartment), we didn’t make it out there until Saturday morning. On our first day there, we decided to take a chance and look at the Robot Chicken panel. We aren’t big fans of the show, and certainly not to the the extent of some of the people there, but the panel was enjoyable and comical.

Personally, I was a little apprehensive about it because I have seen panels (others, not this one in particular) where the guests are bombarded with inane and stupid questions or requests, or the guests roll on and on not really saying anything interesting. Luckily, this panel was none of that, and it was, for the most part, one of the best panels seen at the convention. The line for this panel extended quite a ways and when we arrived, we were starting to second guess whether it would be worth going to the panel with such a long line, especially with the prospect that a full room meant people would be turned away…

As we approached, there really wasn’t that much knowledge by the staff on whether Press has a line or a section, but as we walked towards the back, we were stopped by more knowledgeable staff and directed toward the Press line. We filed in and set up the cameras for the panel and made sure we were not blocking people’s view of the show. Dorian manned the camera and took pictures of the panel guests while the show was progressing.

We got a chance to see a preview of the next Robot Chicken as the show started and saw some pretty good segments, after which the guests of the panel arrived, greeted by Richie Rosenberg (aka LaBamba) as they walked up on the stage platform. The cast introduced themselves and gave a quick summary of their roles and work on the show, and were cracking jokes as often as possible. They then opened the floor up to the attendees where they answered questions from various fans of the show and of Seth Green. Throughout the show, there were some purposeful questions that were asked and only one request (an obvious one to Seth Green as Chris Griffin talking about the evil monkey in the closet). This made the show very entertaining and very informative. Many things were discussed, such as possible future endeavors, reasons for certain things unable to be parodied, short anecdotes about certain segments, and some behind-the-scene production stories.

All-in-all, the fans seemed to ask the right questions and the cast made sure everyone had a fun time while being informative. Being able to see such a creative team work both on and off screen so well really shows why they are so popular among the many fans that were there that day. Seth Green’s presence did not seem to overshadow the panel, and he also seemed to make sure that everyone who worked hard on the show got their credit, as it should be. Overall, we had a very fun time and quite a big surprise in how much we enjoyed seeing this panel.
